Prompt: “Today, I’d like to challenge you to write a poem that engages with another art form – it might be about a friend of yours who paints or sculpts, your high school struggles with learning to play the French horn, or a wonderful painting, film, or piece of music you’ve experienced – anything is in bounds here, so long as it uses the poem to express something about another form of art.” From napowrimo.net.

Famine
This sculpture touched me like no other. I could literally feel their pain and anguish. My photos could not truly capture the essence of their suffering and loss.
Starving and barefoot
Bodies gaunt
Barely able to stand
Faces etched with desperation
Leaving their world
Headed to the unknown
…… to end hunger, feed their families

My great grandma’s parents were children during the great potato famine. They were not fortunate enough to escape to a far away land. Their children came to America but faced great hardship. My great gran told us the stories in our childhood. Beautiful piece of memory for me despite the struggle.

Oh wow. Thx for sharing. I have Irish roots somewhere but have not identified yet. But this feels personal! Hardship. So many people suffer hardship. Thx again.
