Mindful of Space #poem

I attended an online seminar held by Check Your Privilege. I thought I was aware of the space I take up, yet I don’t get out much.

Today I went to two stores. I discovered I’m not near as aware as I thought I was-especially with White people. I wonder why? So here is a two part Senryu.

*

I walk through the store
Scanning the aisles unaware
Of the people there

Black and brown and white
Near collisions all around
The white are heedless
