My Take – Fandango’s Provocative Question #64

The question this week is as follows:

Are you the same person on your blog as you are in real life? Do you like yourself more in the virtual world than you do in the real world?

When I saw this question I knew I should answer. I often think about this because when I started this RuthScribbles blog it was with the intent to be free to say whatever I needed to say to continue my journey without fear of reprisal.

However, it felt so disingenuous, for me! To be fair, I started out with a name and family composition to throw folks off my trail.

I know many people can be authentic and still be anonymous.

Well within one or two posts I changed all that. I am me here and me on Facebook and on Instagram and Twitter. But I may not be the same in all places.

You see, I come from a very strict fundamentalist Christian background. I am still friends, on Facebook, with people from my old way of life. My religion and politics are very different now. I don’t want to hurt them or in fact I don’t want them to tattle to my dad! (Yes, I’m a grandma and he is a great grandfather ) but…. I want to keep speaking with him as long as he is still living.

So yes, my name is Ruth. I live in Texas! I share more about justice and poverty and politics on FBOOK. Pictures on IG and a bit of the other… and on Twitter, who knows! I have asked Trump to resign.

I need to just be me… but, I don’t really want folks praying for my soul and shunning me… I don’t want that drama. Oh, I also cuss. Drink.

So, I’ve gotten this off my chest. Not sure it does any good. If you want to connect elsewhere, let me know and I’ll send you my links.
