If she were still in physical form,
Today, she would be ninety-one
She lived life true to beliefs
Even to the extreme
City living was tough and rough
Her spirit suffered
She didn’t have close friends
She was totally in love with dad
Living in fear for her children
Praise mostly only for school grades
Tired, lonely, denied depression
Practiced much conditional love
Yet, I was taught to care for the helpless
Stand firm in my beliefs
Speak out against wrongs
My beliefs and wrongs became my own—
Very different from hers
Separation and estrangement inevitable
We kept in touch, civilly
Some days I wish to ask her questions
But she is beyond the veil
I wonder what she is experiencing
Is it really as she expected?
mother, mommy
send me a sign
from the other side

Oh, Ruth… what a lovely heartfelt outpouring of love for your mother. My mother passed when I was three. I have no memories of her. I have so many questions… ❤

This is sad but also gives a sense of such strength – passed from mother to daughter! Wonderful poem…

I always threaten Kevin that I’ll haunt him if I go first. 😀

You really capture that agony and longing for connection through the veil.

I have found, much to my surprise, that a form of CBT works, and soma therapies derived from hypno-therapeutic models, but allied – writing/journaling, and reading against the fear.

Wow. I love this. Relationships can be so complicated, but we can still cherish them long after the difficult nature of them has gone.
