They made mementos by dragging silver letters through the sand, and, after they were sufficiently scuffed, the inscription was inlaid on the barrier to the tomb. This was such a strenuous job that they were seen biting their tongues as they climbed up the face of the cliff hefting the barrier.

She closed the book to think on these things.
